How do I get better at sight reading?
Read something new every day, a little below your playing level. Keep going through mistakes instead of stopping, and keep a steady beat. Consistency matters more than length.
What should I look at before playing?
Check the clef, key signature and time signature, clap or tap the rhythm, and find the highest and lowest notes. Ten seconds of scanning prevents most mistakes.
What do the levels mean?
Level 1 uses stepwise notes with whole, half and quarter notes. Level 2 adds skips and eighth notes. Level 3 adds larger leaps and dotted rhythms.
Which instruments can use these exercises?
Any instrument that reads treble or bass clef: piano, flute, violin, saxophone, trumpet, cello, trombone, voice and more.
